As you know from our last post, March has been the month of Things With Wings here at BASE. Recently we explored this theme some more with Birds & Bats Week from March 15-19, followed by Kite Week from March 22-26.
During Birds & Bats Week our class read Janell Cannon's Stellaluna, a story about a baby bat who got separated from her mother and was raised by a family of birds. This story taught us a lot about the differences between birds and bats as well as about the special adaptations bats have to survive.
During this week we also made some beautiful giant birds for our bulletin board, as you can see from Ms. Nicky's example in the first photo. The kids had a great time this week!

You all may recall that the weather from March 22-26 was pretty wet, to say the least. Even though it put a damper on Kite Week, we used the opportunity to stay inside and learn about papermaking. We had so much fun learning about how we can shred our scrap paper into tiny pieces and recycle it into something brand new and beautiful!
