Storytelling Month continued here in second grade this week with Mythology Week starting on Monday. However, by Wednesday a new plan developed as news came to us of a devastating earthquake that had hit Haiti late Tuesday afternoon. The second grade class decided to spring into action with a fundraiser campaign called "Clean Up After Disaster!" in which our students made and sold soap to raise money for charities supporting disaster relief efforts in Haiti.
Mia shows us her Icarus wings!
While Mr. Mike and Ms. Lauren worked with students in the classroom on our Mythology Week projects, Ms. Nicky would choose groups of several students at a time to work with her in the kitchen to help make, wrap, and sell soap. So far, we've raised over $100 for charity! We would like to thank everyone for their help and support over the past few days. Charity work is an excellent way to teach children about social awareness and compassion and it's wonderful to see so many families help set a positive example!
