This week the second graders explored the theme of "Trees & Leaves" by reading an old favorite, "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss. Throughout the week we made two forms of "truffula trees", the first you see pictured here! The other "truffula trees" we made were created out of broccoli, cauliflower, and celery stalks and made a delicious snack.
Anthony's take on the Once-ler!
In "The Lorax" all of the Truffula Trees are eventually cut down by the Once-ler and his family. One of the things our students noticed while reading the book, however, is that you never actually see the Once-ler's face! Have you ever seen a Once-ler? What about the Once-ler's brothers, uncles and aunts? Neither had we! So we used our great imaginations to come up with our own ideas of what the Once-ler looks like!!! Check out Anthony's Once-ler on the right, and Matty B.'s multiple versions below.
