In honor of Sci-fi and Ghost Stories week, we began this Monday with a Build-Your-Own Robot project! Each group started out with a mix of materials like string, paper towel rolls, tape, pipe cleaners, and other odds and ends. They were asked to use their imaginations to come up with the best robot they could make, and we have some pretty cool robots! Take a look!
Today in second grade we did a science experiment - salt volcanoes. We added vegetable oil, food coloring, and salt to a large jug of water and observed what we saw. Many students observed bubbles and "smoke," in the water. Here is a photo of our experiment, keep a lookout on our bulletin board for our observations!
We are currently working on getting Morning Base its own blog, but I wanted to share some photos in the meantime. This morning at Morrisson Miss Crystal helped us make homemade play doh! With only a few ingredients and some food coloring, we made some pretty cool blue goop. Enjoy a few of the pictures, with some familiar second grade faces!
Happy Friday everyone! We wanted to share a few more fun photos from Fairytale Week before we all went off to our long weekend. On Wednesday we made egg and nut-free pumpkin spice muffins! The students measured and mixed everything themselves, and though not all of us loved the pumpkin flavor, many of us tried a new food for the first time. Here are a couple of photos of us enjoying the baking, not to mention the delicious smell throughout BASE all afternoon! Today we got creative with a fun fall craft. Students colored, cut, and painted leaves (and an assortment of other shapes). This project was inspired by similar works by the famous American artist, Georgia O'Keefe, and we think they came out pretty awesome! Take a look at some of our works of art: Thanks for a great week everyone! For more pictures from earlier this week, including castle-building and some playground teamwork, be sure to check out the old page here. Enjoy your long weekend, and be sure to check back for updates from next week, where the theme is Mythology!
Hi everyone! From now on, this will be the page to read for current entries on the 2nd grade blog! Thanks for your patience as we try to master this technology!
If you missed the last couple of from this week, they can still be found on the Blog 2012-2013 page. Please comment if you have any questions! |
