Today at BASE we got a visit from some underwater friends at the New England Aquarium! We were able to see how different sea animals lived in their habitats and what kinds of adaptations each creature had.. Check out some photos below!
We spent our Valentines afternoon baking crepes topped with fresh strawberries! The kids did a great job, they were delicious! Who doesn't like releasing all their energy in the gym!? Our second graders love going to the gym! Today we set up stations.. Check out some action shots from this afternoon! This week at BASE was Hidden Talents Week! We learned that a lot of our students are pretty talented, and we were really impressed with what they could do. On Monday we talked about what our hidden talents were, and wrote them down with an illustration. Here are some of those pictures here: Thursday was a half day at Braintree Public Schools, so we had a special day at BASE. There was pizza, games, and a talent show! We were very proud of the second graders that wanted to share their talents with the other grades. Joey S. and Zach performed some moves they learned from their Muay Thai class; Ella peformed the Cup Song routine; Jayden and Sabrina did a ball toss; Damien, Tyler, and Jamae showed off their Lego building skills; and Lorelei helped out with a Kindergarten dance. Everyone did a great job and we really enjoyed seeing everyone show off their hidden talents!
Yesterday the kids were hard at work expressing their feelings through music and art! We listened to a variety of different songs and each color/painting represented a specific song and what it reminded them of... Lots of fun! The month of January at BASE has been dedicated to performing arts, and this week is theatre week! We've done a lot of exciting activities and projects, including theatre games and mask making. It has been really nice to see everyone's creative sides come alive, we hope you feel the same way as you scroll through these pictures: The end of the year at BASE brought lots of fun projects and activities in the second grade classroom. Visits from Santa, cookie decorating, and making Christmas cards kept us busy as we anxiously awaited the start of vacation. We hope that everyone had a wonderful break and are excited to be back! Please enjoy these photos of the last week and some additional photos from winter break at BASE! And here are some photos of the fun projects we did during Winter Break at BASE. This Friday, the Second Grade looked more like Santa's workshop as we prepared for our Holiday Fair, which will take place Monday thru Wednesday of next week. First, we did some dancing to get us ready. Miss Kayla had some great moves that she taught us! Then, we got busy making some holiday decorations as well as yummy treats! We enjoyed working together while listening to some festive holiday music. Here are some photos of our works in progress: Here at Second Grade, we've been busy getting in the holiday spirit! Take a look at our Christmas Trees and Snowflakes: Today, a very special guest came and talked to students at BASE in grades K-3 about recycling and working in a greenhouse. Her name is Jane, and she is the greenhouse caretaker at Wheaton College. We had a lot of fun, Jane made a big mess, and to everyone's surprise - none of it was trash! After some education in recycling, reusing, re-purposing, and even composting, we even cleaned up! Then, later on, Jane did a special presentation for just the Second Graders. We learned that plants can even recycle themselves! Using materials that Jane brought us, we replanted cuttings from a jungle plant just by putting the ends into some soil. Students could take their plants home, and Jane gave everyone some instructions for helping to care for the plants - let us know how yours are doing! We also kept one for our classroom, so we'll keep you posted on its progress! Here are some photos of us doing our planting: Many thanks to Jane for visiting us and sharing her knowledge, we'll be sure to put all of our recycling knowledge to good use!
