After a few days of good homework time behavior, second grade had a special treat in this delicious and sweet cooking project. They made the rice krispie treats themselves, and then molded them into the shape of a hand print. Add some icing, chocolate chips, and candy corn and you've got yourself a turkey! We were very excited about our treats, and may or may not have gotten a little carried away with our Friday fun. Take a look at our slideshow and see for yourself!

This week we focused on a couple of projects to celebrate a favorite upcoming holiday - Thanksgiving! First, the students made turkeys with coffee filters for the feathers. They designed the feathers any way they wanted using markers, and then made them tie-dye by dipping the filters in water. It was really fun to watch the colors blend together on the paper, and we had some lovely feathers at the end! The next project was a Thankfulness Tree. Students cut leaves out of construction paper and on each one, wrote something that they were thankful for. They painted the tree trunks and will use pipe cleaners to attach the leaves. Below are some photos of the works in progress, along with some of our technicolor turkeys! Happy Friday everyone! We have a lot to share with you after a fun week of leaf animals, bird feeders, acorn hunts, and other fun arts and crafts projects. Clubs started this Wednesday, and we had a special stations day on the half day. Tuesday we talked about animals that store acorns for the winter, and and had our very own acorn hunt in the classroom. The second graders really enjoyed searching for acorns, and trying to be the team who survives the winter! After our first round, we had the winning team be the "hiders," and they found some pretty creative hiding places. Take a look at the slideshow to get an idea of what it was like! We are currently working on some paper mache animals, we'll put up some photos soon!
Happy Halloween from 2nd grade! We had a great afternoon yesterday. Everyone was so excited to go trick or treating and show off their Halloween costumes. We had a yummy spaghetti dinner and made candy corn bead keychains! This was a test project for some of us but everyone tried really hard and did a great job. We hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween!
In honor of Sci-fi and Ghost Stories week, we began this Monday with a Build-Your-Own Robot project! Each group started out with a mix of materials like string, paper towel rolls, tape, pipe cleaners, and other odds and ends. They were asked to use their imaginations to come up with the best robot they could make, and we have some pretty cool robots! Take a look! Today in second grade we did a science experiment - salt volcanoes. We added vegetable oil, food coloring, and salt to a large jug of water and observed what we saw. Many students observed bubbles and "smoke," in the water. Here is a photo of our experiment, keep a lookout on our bulletin board for our observations!
We are currently working on getting Morning Base its own blog, but I wanted to share some photos in the meantime. This morning at Morrisson Miss Crystal helped us make homemade play doh! With only a few ingredients and some food coloring, we made some pretty cool blue goop. Enjoy a few of the pictures, with some familiar second grade faces!
Happy Friday everyone! We wanted to share a few more fun photos from Fairytale Week before we all went off to our long weekend. On Wednesday we made egg and nut-free pumpkin spice muffins! The students measured and mixed everything themselves, and though not all of us loved the pumpkin flavor, many of us tried a new food for the first time. Here are a couple of photos of us enjoying the baking, not to mention the delicious smell throughout BASE all afternoon! Today we got creative with a fun fall craft. Students colored, cut, and painted leaves (and an assortment of other shapes). This project was inspired by similar works by the famous American artist, Georgia O'Keefe, and we think they came out pretty awesome! Take a look at some of our works of art: Thanks for a great week everyone! For more pictures from earlier this week, including castle-building and some playground teamwork, be sure to check out the old page here. Enjoy your long weekend, and be sure to check back for updates from next week, where the theme is Mythology!
