The second grade teachers would first like to apologize for the month-long blog hiatus. There's been a LOT going on since February! Let's recap!
First, we'd like to welcome our newest addition to the second grade staff--the amazing Ms. Kristen! She has already built a great relationship with our students and has shown herself to be an excellent addition to our team.
Second grade shared their goodbyes with Mr. Mike during our Going Away/Valentine's Day Party on Fri. February 14. After a brief trip to Spain, Mr. Mike will be moving to Seattle and the kids are already waiting for their postcards.
We've also had to share another sad good-bye this month with the recent passing of our class guinea pig Fido. After a sudden illness Fido passed away comfortably after four years of being a very special part of BASE. We will miss him very much, but in the mean time the children have used his passing as a beautiful opportunity to share their love and celebrate the lives of both Fido and his daughter Daisy, who remains happily enjoying her life in our classroom.
February's projects included a month-long dive into the world of art. Many of you, by now, have seen our giant guinea pig portrait on the class bulletin board. This painting, done by our students, was inspired by the grid style paintings of the artist Chuck Close. The kids were so excited with the completed piece and we hope you have been enjoying it.
Other art projects from this month have included marble paintings--made by placing a sheet of paper in a jar with paint-covered marbles and shaking it around; as well as water-color resist paintings. During Art Month we also explored sculpture and theater!
The theme for the month of March has been Things With Wings, so keep your eyes peeled for more regular weekly blog posts on this topic!
