Hard work pays off in the backyard! The girls worked together to make a tunnel out of all these giant puzzle pieces - they were very proud of the outcome, great job!
This was a week for teamwork! Our students have spent a lot of time this week, determined to finish our United States puzzle. Each day the puzzle was taken out, and each day we got a little farther. On Thursday, with a lot of teamwork and geography knowledge, they succeeded!
This week was Nutrition Week! We talked a lot about sweets versus fruits and veggies when we played Candy Bar Tag! In this game, Candy Bar "taggers" freeze the runners, but if they can name fruits and vegetables, they can run around again! We talked about how this is like how sugar and fat affect our bodies by making us sluggish and slow, but fruits and vegetables keep us healthy and fit! We also talked about the Food Pyramid, and drew some of our favorite foods for each food group! A big part of our week this week was Family Night! We had some great food donated by our families, and also our students' personalized salads that we made here at Base! We did a fun Family Tree Cut & Paste Activity, as well had Marshmallow Tower Contest! A lot of our families received awards for Teamwork and Creative Construction! Check out some pictures from this fun event! It was great to spend time with you all, thank you for a great night!
This week at BASE was Fitness Week! We did a lot of activities that got us up and moving, and the kids did great! Some of the fun activities we did were relay races, fitness stations in the gym, and making grape worms! We also talked about our favorite fitness activities! Here is one of our students showing off his favorite fitness activity, biking! Remember! Family Night is THIS Tuesday! We hope you can join us from 6:30-7:30 to check out the Second Grade and meet the teachers!
We still need several meals for our pot-luck! If you haven't signed up yet, please take a look at the sign-up sheet on our door to see what we still need! We thank you for your help, have a great weekend! -Miss Diana, MIss Kayla, Miss Karyn Welcome to second grade! We were so excited to meet all the new students over the last two weeks, and can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us! On our first day, the kids came in with tons of energy! We got right to business, eating snack and getting some homework done. Then it was outside to play on a beautiful afternoon. When we came in, students completed a Scavenger Hunt! In this game, they had a list of fun facts and they had to find classmates who “have brown eyes,” “have a cat,” and “were born in another state,” and other cool facts. It was a great way to get to know each other. We also made nametags, which tell us where to sit! We spent the rest of the week learning how we eat snack, clean up our classroom, and help each other learn and have fun. The theme of Week 2 is Dance! We’ve done a lot of dance activities, including cooking Jello Jigglers! Some of our favorite activities were a Dance Circle, where we all got to lead our friends in a fun dance that we like. We also played X Marks the Spot, which is a little like Musical Chairs. On Friday, Miss Kayla taught us about rain and we did a rain dance. To our excitement, it actually rained after we finished! Here are the students looking out the window at our success! As a final note to this post, we'd like to ask you to SAVE THE DATE! Tuesday, September 24 is our Family Night, where we look forward to meeting and spending time with our students’ families and playing some fun activities. Our Theme is going to be “Favorites” – so we will be asking families to bring in your child’s favorite foods for the potluck. To prevent too many servings of mac n’ cheese and chicken nuggets, we will post a signup sheet on our door. Please sign up at your earliest convenience, and we appreciate your help in making Family Night a yummy success!
Thanks for a great couple of weeks, we look forward to seeing you all soon! - Miss Kayla, Miss Karyn, and Miss Diana This week we are learning all about dinosaurs! Check out the pics below of our 2nd graders making some fossils!
This week we're flexing our brains in 2nd grade! We're learning about engineering and physical science. The week kicked off with a bridge building contest!
Second grade is really getting into our new gardening project! Mr. Bobby has even started a Gardening Club with us! Here he is helping the kids figure out what we know, want to know, and what we've learned about gardening.
